Approov Appoints Cybersecurity Executive Ted Miracco CEO
Assumes Role from David Stewart who Retires After 20 Years of Technical Excellence, Innovation in Securing Mobile Apps, and 35% Year-Over-Year Sales Growth in 2022.
Palo Alto, CA, December 08, 2022 - Approov, creator of advanced mobile app and API shielding security solutions, today named Ted Miracco CEO, an executive with high-technology experience spanning 30 years in cybersecurity, defense electronics, RF/microwave circuit design, semiconductors and electronic design automation (EDA).
He replaces David Stewart who is retiring after 20 years building Approov into a company with record year-over-year sales growth of 35% in 2022 and a reputation for technical excellence.
“We actively recruited Ted knowing he had the right skills and knowledge to take Approov to the next level,” remarks Stewart. “His enthusiasm, energy and savvy are unmatched in the cybersecurity world and he will quickly become a valuable asset to Approov as it further expands its market reach and leadership in securing mobile app APIs against the broad range of cyberattacks.”
“David Stewart leaves a legacy of technological innovation and achievement that will be missed,” comments Miracco. “I will work diligently to ensure his vision for Approov remains.”
“The Approov Board of Directors thanks David for his leadership and commitment as we welcome Ted into an exciting and growing company,” says Lucio Lanza, Approov’s chairman of the board and managing director of Lanza techVentures. “I look forward to working closely with Ted and developing as strong a partnership as I have with David.”
Businesses and consumers are increasingly dependent upon mobile applications for sharing valuable data. However, rapid development and poor security are making mobile applications extremely vulnerable, and are presenting new attack surfaces for bad actors.
Approov provides a comprehensive run-time security solution for mobile apps and their APIs on iOS and Android. By deploying Approov, companies can immediately stop automated tools or compromised apps from manipulating any part of the end-to-end mobile platform to eliminate threat vulnerabilities, adding safety to convenience.
Approov enables organizations to protect their production mobile applications and APIs against current and future attack types. It is a particularly effective approach for defending against attack types that were not considered back when an app was first conceived, developed and launched. Approov is considered a cornerstone of mobile application security for leading global organizations whose consumer and B2B applications are used by millions annually, including eCommerce, financial services, healthcare and connected car sector organizations.
Run-time security threats against mobile apps and APIs continue to inflict damage on organizations— and cannot be prevented by adopting better secure development processes. Better integrating secure development practices into the software development life cycle does not eliminate the threat of run-time attacks against mobile apps and APIs. Run-time attacks against APIs that render mobile apps non-functional impose a costly effect on 75% of organizations.

Approov provides a comprehensive runtime security solution for mobile apps and their APIs, unified across iOS and Android. Mobile apps have become a critical element for every business and unfortunately can expose organizations to breaches, fraud, denial of service, and other forms of API abuse. Approov immediately stops any automated tools or compromised apps from manipulating any part of the end-to-end mobile platform, turning away unauthorized access attempts by scripts, bots and fake or tampered apps. By eliminating false positives and providing runtime application self-protection (RASP) as well as just-in time-management of API keys, secrets and certificates, Approov delivers both exceptional operational convenience and highly robust security at scale.
